My yoga practice didn't start out with a vision, a mission, or even a whole lot of talent. For a long time, I didn't even think of having "a yoga practice" -- yoga was just something I did, when I wasn't playing music (I play the double bass in the Calgary Philharmonic), reading (my favorite author is Marcel Proust), or training for marathons (I've done 5, but these days I only run when I'm late to a yoga class!).
From the start I've been blessed some amazing teachers, though: Kino MacGregor, Tim Feldmann, and Greg Nardi in Miami, where I lived for a few years while playing in the New World Symphony; then Harmony and Jeff Lichty at The Yoga Shala, when I moved here in 2007. I continue to benefit from the inspired teaching of Emily Kotow and Audra MacDonald, who currently teach the Mysore class at The Yoga Shala.
For me, ashtanga yoga is first of all a practice, a space where the discipline and devotion we offer are their own rewards. I believe that everyone can practice and benefit from the system of ashtanga yoga as taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. Through my teaching, I hope to offer this practice to others in the same spirit of wisdom, kindness, and patience my teachers have offered it to me.
