I did my first yoga class many moons ago with a lady wearing purple tights at a community centre. It was very nice and soothing, but it wasn't until I tried Ashtanga Yoga 10 years ago things started to change for me.

Unlike a lot of yogis, I was not a professional dancer, nor athlete of any sort. I'm just a gal who got into yoga because of the nap at the end of class. To this day I am motivated to my mat knowing there's a wee nap at the end. Naps are the best; but I digress.

I did teacher training with Rockne White in Calgary, then with Tim Miller, and have spent many hours travelling the world to study with senior ashtanga yoga teachers. After spending time with these people that have dedicated their lives to this practice, and seeing first hand the clarity in their eyes and the calm way about which they conduct themselves, I feel confident to say that the path of yoga is a good one.

It makes me laugh when people say (and they do) "yoga is easy, it's just stretching". Ashtanga yoga is vigorous; then add to that such aspects as committment, discpline, being kind to others AND yourself, non judgement, non harming, non hoarding, eating a proper diet, etc. Not easy, but so super totally worth it. If you still think it's easy please click here and watch this yoga demonstration with Sharath and Guruji.

I really love the Yoga Shala, and I hope you will too.

See you soon,

Dana
